This series of pieces explore visualizing the lungs volume during a forced breath. In a forced breath, the amount of air generally will not exceed 6,000 mL, and will always be less than the total lung volume. Under special circumstances the volume of the air may be as great as 8,000 mL, possibly more. In order to capture meaningful visualizations of this volume, specific perameters were followed in regard to glass temperature—each piece utilizing only furnace heat and being prepared and blown following strict time guidelines. Special attention was also paid to volume of glass—each piece is composed of a single gather on identically sized pipes.
